NOTE - The name of "Bertler Platz" is puzzling because his age suggests that he was born several years before the known marriage date between Henry Platz and Lydia Jones in 1884 in Michigan.

However, some researchers have suggested that his full name was "Robert B. (Bert) Jerome Platz" and that there may have been a previous marriage for Henry Platz. It is not clear if this previous marriage was one of Henry's which explains Robert's surname or a previous marriage of Lydia's and Robert was either formally or informally adopted by Henry Platz. To complicate matters, the listing or Robert J. Platz in the 1910 US Census suggests a birth year of about 1884, the listing in the 1920 US Census suggests a birth year of about 1883, but the 1930 US Census suggests a birth year of about 1881. Robert's birth location for his parents appear to be the same as his other siblings which also suggest that Henry Platz may have been the father. If Robert's birth years are correct and their marriage was not until 1884, it may be a simple matter of a child born out of wedlock and the parents later married.
