The only way this would be possible to have two children each born in Apr 1888 yet one died in 1888 and the other lived well into his adulthood would for the birth to be for twins. Therefore, there must have been another twin to John Sackman that must have been stillborn or died within days.

To complicate this even more, there is another birth record for an un-named Sackman male but this birth record indicates that he was born 10 Mar 1889. What is unusual about this birth date is that it precisely matches that date on the gravestone for John Sackman in Mesa, Arizona and is the birth date given for him in the death records.

So when was John Sackman born? His birth date of Apr 1888 given on the 1900 census would seem to conflict with the death records for an infant that died at that time unless, of course, there was a twin birth. But then who was born on 10 Mar 1889? That date matches precisely the date on the gravestone for John Sackman buried in Arizona. If one were to believe that the 10 Mar 1889 birth date, then the Apr 1888 must have been for just a single birth of a stillborn baby that was un-named. This would all seem so clear if only the Apr 1888 on the 1900 census was not there to confuse everything.

  Death Notes:

Although both of the following death records spell the surname as Saxman instead of Sackman, they are believed to be for the correct person because in the obituary for one or more of his siblings, John's residence is mentioned as Phoenix, Arizona. It is unclear as to how or why he would change the spelling of the surname.

Note that both death records are for an individual that was born on 10 Mar 1889 instead of the expected Apr 1888. The actual gravestone for John Saxman in the City of Mesa Cemetery shows his birth date as 10 Mar 1889 which is the same as the death records yet the person who created a memorial page on Find-A-Grave.com gave his birth date as 10 Apr 1889.
