  General Notes:

George's birth location may be a bit of a mystery. The 1870 US Census shows Maryland, the same as all his siblings. On the 1880 US Census it shows Ohio. There is an Indiana Marriage record when he was married on 14 Nov 1916 in Goshen, Elkhart County, Indiana which also shows his birth location as Sandusky County, Ohio. The question naturally arises as to why the parents would have ventured from Maryland to Ohio and one possibility is that the American Civil War had started in 1861. Fearing the consequences of the war especially around the volatile area of Baltimore and surrounding counties, the family probably moved to a more safer area in Sandusky County, Ohio. After the end of the war in 1865, the family evidently moved back to Frederick County, Maryland where Sarah was born in 1866. (Brian L. Lightfoot)
