Carpenter, Charles Lester -- Charles Lester Carpenter, 56, of Avon Lake died yesterday morning at Veteran's Hospital, Brecksville, of a heart ailment. He had been employed at the Lorain shipyard prior to his illness. The son of David and Emmaline Fast Carpenter, he was born in Ashland county July 25, 1887. He was united with the Methodist church of Ruggles in his youth. A veteran of the first World War, he was also a member of the American Legion. Survivors are his widow, one son Floyd of Erie, Pa., two daughters, Mrs. Mildred Gaberil of Cleveland and Beulah, at home, five grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. William Friend and Mrs. Harold D. Willis of Ashland, Mrs. Bert Hunter of Plymouth, and two brothers, Irvin of Ruggles and Claydean of Savannah. His parents and one sister preceded him in death. Funeral services will be held at the Swartz Funeral Home. Fifth street, Lorain, Friday afternoon at one o'clock. Interment will be made at Savannah cemetery.
