General Notes:
Thomas received part of his education in Edinburgh and later lived in Kilmarnock. From there he went to Carlisle, Pennsylvania, from there to Kendal, Ohio, and from there to Millbrook, Ohio where he died in 1874. ----------------------------------------
Thomas, the son of Reverend James Methven and his wife Catherine McPhee was born in Scotland in 1795. He was educated in Edinburgh and Kilmarnock before leaving for America around 1820.
He married Elizabeth Lightfoot in 1825. Their children were James Frazier Methven (17 Apr 1827 - 11 Sep 1889), Daniel Methven (23 Nov 1829 - 17 Feb 1902), Elizabeth Methven-Brittain of Bryan, Ohio, and Angus Archibald Methven (3 Dec 1832 - 21 Apr 1912).
Thomas later married Isabelle Ewing (who died 26 May 1883), and had a daughter, Jeanette Methven. She in turn married Daniel French a Presbyterian Minister in Mansfield, Ohio. Their sons Thomas E. and Edward H. French were residents of Columbus, Ohio. According to the census, Thomas was a weaver by trade. ---------------------------------------------
Following the death of his 1st wife, Elizabeth Lightfoot in 1835, Thomas remarried to Isabella Ewing on 4 Sep 1837 in Wayne County, Ohio.
Thomas and his 2nd wife and family were living in Franklin Township, Wayne County, Ohio in the 1840 US Census:
1 male 5-10 (probably son Angus but all his later probable census records indicate a birth location of Pennsylvania) 1 male 40-50 (Thomas Methven) 2 female under 5 (most likely daughter Elizabeth and one other unknown 1 female 5-10 (most likely daughter Catherine or Hetty) 1 female 30-40 (most likely 2nd wife, Isabelle Ewing) ----------------------------------------
