bullet  Marriage Notes:

John and Mary were 1st cousins.
------------------------------------

The 1905 Iowa State Census is somewhat difficult to locate any specific records because the individual cards created for each person were not microfilmed in any particular order other that a mass grouping by the first letter of the surname for each county. In other words, one family's cards can be spread over several hundred different images within a particular county. Although each person's card has a separate number on it, that number was not used in sorting the cards.

To make matters worse, the records of Clay County, Iowa mostly have a very difficult to read handwriting and there may be some errors in the sorting by the first letter of the surname. Even worse, some cards begin with the surname and some begin with the first name. This makes some names difficult to discern the correct surname such as Davis, Clark, etc. I suspect that some thought to be missing cards for individuals may be filed under the first letter of the given name rather than the surname.
----------------------------------------

In the 1915 Iowa State Census, Mary is still married to John Campbell, so they must have divorced some time between 1915 and 1920 as she shows up in the 1920 Federal Census married to Roy Swingley. She also states that she is of the Free Methodist faith.
