  General Notes:

To my knowledge, John and Mary Millhouse (the maternal grandparents) had only one daughter (Margaret Ann Millhouse) who married a Lightfoot, therefore this Laura Lightfoot listed on their 1870 and 1880 US Census record in Franklin County, Pennsylvania must be the daughter of Margaret Ann Millhouse.

These census reports shows Laura's birth year to be about 1863 which is 5 years earlier than the marriage certificate of Robert and Margaret which clearly was dated 7 Jul 1868. The book "Watson Genealogy 1760-1909" provides a marriage date that is 6 years earlier, 7 July 1862 which would seem to make the birth of Laura a legitimate one.

If the birth of Laura was illegitimate, then she was sent to her maternal grandparents in Franklin County, Pennsylvania to be raised by them. Her parents, Robert and Margaret, then moved to Richland County, Ohio for a number of years where their second daughter, Clara, was born in 1869 and two other sons. The parents then moved back to Franklin County, Pennsylvania by 1873 where the rest of their children were born. Even though they lived in the same township as Margaret's parents, Laura remained with her grandparents as evidenced by the 1870 and 1880 US Census records.
