ARMY CONVOY MAKES OVERNIGHT STOP HERE
An Army convoy with equipment from the Springfield, Ill., arsenal left here this morning after an overnight stop in Winona en route to Camp Ripley, Minn.

The equipment - including seven large guns and seven vehicles - will be on loan from the U.S. Property and Disbursing Office at Springfield to Camp Ripley for the training of National Guard personnel at the camp during the summer.

In charge of the convoy is 1st Lt. David Gilpin, Springfield, a son-in-law of Mr. and Mrs. Vinson A. Rice, 1603 W. 5th St. Lt. Gilpin's wife is the former Ruth Drugan, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Rice.

The convoy, whose personnel included seven sergeants from the arsenal, arrived in Winona Monday afternoon and left about 10 a.m. today.

The group left Springfield Saturday.

David N. Gilpin, 80, of Springfield died Tuesday, May 22, 2001, at St. John's Hospital. He was born July 26, 1920, in Springfield, the son of David N. and Ollie Fisher Gilpin Sr.

He married Ruth M. Drugan in 1951, in Petersburg; she preceded him in death April 2.

Mr. Gilpin was retired from a life-long military career. He was a member of VFW Post 755 and Woodside United Methodist Church.

Survivors: two sons, David Neal Gilpin of Laramie, WY., and Michael Gilpin of Springfield; three daughters, Patrice Burg of Divernon, Susan (husband, Mike) Miller of Elkhart and Nancy (husband, James) Armstrong of Auburn; a step-daughter, Cheryl (husband, Paul) Robillard of Scottsdale, Arizona; five grandchildren; a great-granddaughter; a sister, Marjorie Peck of Springfield; and several nieces and nephews.

Services: 1 p.m. Friday, Bisch Funeral Home West, Pat Meeter officiating. Burial: 10 a.m. Tuesday, Camp Butler National Cemetery.
