  General Notes:

On all census records, the age of Martin Possin was consistently overstated by exactly one year. Perhaps he thought his date of birth was 11 Nov 1800 instead of 11 Nov 1801. On the Passenger Ship's Manifest when he sailed from Germany to the US in 1848, his age was stated as 48 which would seem to indicate that his proper year of birth was 1800. Only his obituaries and gravestone seem to indicate 1801. No birth records from Germany have been discovered.

• His obituary was published in the Dodge County Pioneer on 21 November 1889 in , Dodge County, MN.

² On Friday the 15th of November, in the morning at 9 o'clock, at the age of 88 years and three days, Mr. Martin Possin who lives at the home of his son Julius Possin in the Town of Theresa, gently passed away. He had been blind for two and a half years. Otherwise however he was healthy and in bed for only two days before his death. He was born on the 11th of November 1801 in the Oderbruch, and was married in 1825 to his wife Sophie, born Jaenicke, who died on the 7th of July 1881. In 1848 the couple came to America and directly to the Town of Theresa, where they have resided since. He leaves a son and seven daughters, whom are all married, and four children having died previously in the old homeland. The funeral took place on Sunday afternoon after a service at Saint Paul's Church in the Town of Theresa, and was performed by Pastor W. Bessmann. Peace be to the departed.
