Miss Sophia L. Haase, 79, of Oshkosh, died Monday, October 27, 1986.

Miss Haase was born Oct. 22, 1907, in the Town of Trenton, Dodge, the daughter of Albert and Ida Possin Haase. Miss Haase graduated from Waupun High School and from Lawrence University in 1929, and received her master's degree from Northwestern University in 1946. She taught school in Tigerton and Appleton, and at Lake Forest College in Illinois before becoming a resident counselor at Indiana University at Bloomington, Stephens College, Columbia, Mo., and Northwestern University.

Miss Haase then became dean of girls at Milwaukee University School before becoming a counselor, teacher and coordinator of extracurricular activities at the former Oshkosh Senior High School and at Oshkosh West High School. She retired in 1972. She was past president of the Chaminade Chorus, the American Field Service, the Oshkosh Altrusa Club, the Evergreen Man or Residents Council, the Evergreen Manor Aux., and the American Assoc. of University Women. She was a member of Oriental Chapter No. 16 Order of the Eastern Star, the Twentieth Century Club, the Oshkosh Education Assoc., The Wisconsin Education Assoc., The National Education of Women's Deans and Counselors, and First Congregational Church.

Miss Haase is survived by numerous cousins, nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were held Thursday at First Congregational Church, Oshkosh. The Rev. Robert Spalding officiated. Burial is at Forest Mound Cemetery, Waupun. Friends were able to call at Seefeld Church Avenue Chapel on Wednesday from 4 to 8 PM and at the church Thursday after 10 AM. A memorial has been established to the Oshkosh Chapter of American Field Service.
