bullet  General Notes:

Prior to her marriage to William P. Lightfoot, Maggie was married to "Van Wagner" who died in 1902.
-----------------------------------------------

It appears that somehow Maggie got the nickname of Jessie. That nickname appears on their 1920 US Census as well as the death certificate for William.
--------------------------------------------

The 1920 US Census shows her name as "Jessie" and William's age was nearly twice the age of her. He was 66 while she was 34. However, the marriage document between William and Maggie E. Rodger shows their age to be only about 7 years apart.

If Jessie was a different person than Maggie E. Rodger, then the maiden name of Jessie remains elusive because I can find no marriage document for them under the name of Jessie.

When William died in 1927, he was buried alongside of his first wife, Ida, who died in 1908. The burial location for either Maggie or Jessie remains unknown but there is a Jessie Lightfoot buried in the same Hebron Cemetery. According to a newspaper obituary, this Jessie who died in 1956 was the wife of Frank Lightfoot and she was a long-time resident of Hebron. I have been unable to figure out who Frank Lightfoot was.

bullet  Noted events in her life were:

• She has alternate birth date of 1885 and a birth location of Indiana.

• She appeared on the 1920 US Census in Hebron, IN on 21 Jan 1920. 1

NOTE - Could this be a 3rd wife of William? Otherwise, the name Jessie does not match Maggie and the ages are different. If this is the same as Maggie, then her birth date of 27 Sep 1860 would mean that her age should have been 59 instead of 34.

• They have conflicting marriage information of 15 Aug 1914. 3 It is believed that this marriage date of 1914 is incorrect for the following reasons.

There is a marriage document issued in Porter County, Indiana in 1910 for William P. Lightfoot but the name of the spouse is slightly different than the expected "Jessie" that appeared on the 1920 US Census. That marriage document shows the name of the spouse as Maggie E. Van Wagnen with an age of about 50 born in Georgia. Her father's name was shown as William Rodger making her birth name Maggie E. Rodger.

On that marriage document, the William Lightfoot lists his occupation as engineer which matches his occupation from the 1900 and 1910 US Census records. He correctly lists his father's name as John but his mother's name was given as an almost undecipherable "Ashatich" or perhaps "Alhatich" which is somewhat close to her name believed to be "Atha Ann" even though her name was spelled different in most census documents. William gave his father's birth place as Pennsylvania instead of the expected Maryland and gave his mother's birth place as Ohio instead of the expected Pennsylvania.

The most important piece of information which proves this marriage document to be the correct William P. Lightfoot is that on the document he shows the date of death of his first wife to be 25 Oct 1908 which correctly matches the death certificate issued in Illinois.
