• Her obituary was published in The Waynesville Record on 10 June 1939 in Waynesville, IL.

6 Mrs. Henrietta Mountjoy died at her home in the west part of Atlanta, Tuesday, shortly before midnight. She had been in failing health for several years, but the immediate cause of death was a heart attack and slight stroke which she suffered about a week before.

Henrietta, daughter of James and Burilla Eddy, was born in Kentucky, April 29, 1854. The family came to Illinois in 1857, and settled on a farm west of Atlanta. When Henrietta was eight years old, both parents died of typhoid fever, and were buried in one grave in the Niblick cemetery. She was then taken into the home of older brothers and sisters.

On February 27, 1872, she was married to Francis M. Mountjoy engaged in the pure bred draft horse business. He died October 18, 1919.

The only child born to this union was Mrs. Olive Stroud, who was with her mother in her last days. There are also surviving two grandchildren, Mrs. Harold Rogers, of Atlanta, and Paul Stroud, of Chicago; and two great grandchildren, Marian and Donald Rogers.

Mrs. Mountjoy became a member of the Christian church early in life. Funeral services will be held at the Atlanta Christian church this (Thursday) afternoon, at 2 o'clock, Rev. R. W. Seath officiating. Burial will be in the Atlanta cemetery.

bullet  Marriage Notes:

The book written by Dr. W. W. Houser, "Genealogy of the Houser, Rhorer, Dillman, Hoover Families" on page 77 indicates that Francis was married in Missouri. His parents had moved there from about 1871 until 1875 but it is not clear exactly which of his children went with them other than the statement "other members of the family". The records of Logan County, Illinois show that marriage license number 3089 was issued on 27 Feb 1873 as recorded in Vol. 2, page 124 between Francis M. Mountjoy and Henrietta Eddy. Perhaps this means that Francis stayed behind in Illinois or else he and/or his parents returned temporarily to Illinois just so that Francis could be married there near all their other relatives. One researcher, James E. Thomas, provides a marriage location of Nevada, Vernon County, Missouri on 28 Feb 1872 so maybe they were married in both places. In addition, the same researcher provides a date of 28 Nov 1875 for a marriage of Francis' brother, Albert, to have also occurred in Nevada, Missouri. Albert's first child was born back in Illinois. So far I have seen no source citation on either marriage taking place in Missouri yet many researchers continue to copy what they find on the Internet.

One logical scenario might be that Francis may or may not have been first married in Missouri but returned first by himself to McLean County, Illinois where he was married in 1873. By November of 1875, his brother, Albert was married in Missouri and after which he and his bride returned to McLean County, Illinois as well did his parents and any other family members.
