Grandma was a lovely woman with an iron fist. I remember Grandma best for her wonderful cooking and the love she showed to the family. She was nicknamed "The Warden" because of her sureness and demand for things to be proper. Underneath, she was a woman with a heart of gold. My best memory of Grandma is when she was in the hospital a few hours before she passed on. Grandma hadn't been able to move, nor was she responsive. I remember having to leave and Grandpa putting me on the hospital bed to say goodnight. I told Grandma that I loved her and that I knew she was sick but that she would be back making me my sandwiches and cooking the best food ever. Grandpa took me from the bed and put me on the floor and as we were leaving out the door I turned back to see Grandma and on her right hand she lifted her pinky finger just about 1/2 an inch off the bed and it fell back slowly. I smiled at grandma and blew her a kiss and told her I loved her, not knowing it would be the last time I would ever see her. Although this memory may seem disturbing to some, when you are 5 years old and don't understand quite what is going on, it's the best memory to have. To know that the strength and determination of someone on their way out to leave a memory with a child who would never get to know the person, it gives a child the gumption to know that in life you should be strong, find your way, and give your last little strength to making an impact on someone else.

The cause of his death was congestive heart failure.
