bullet  General Notes:

Personal story by Granddaughter, Dorri (Heimbuecher) Safford:
Grandpa was a man who used his hands to create intricate and meaningful pieces from wood. Most notable were the covered wagons with working pieces. Each were hand carved (whittled) all the way to the spokes in the wheels. Most wagons had small shovels, picks, keg barrels, etc. The wagons were most notably shown in a small deli called Roventini's Italian Deli" located in Sebastopol, Sonoma, California at the corner of Petaluma Avenue and Walker Avenue's. The wagons were given as gifts to the owner, Virginia Roventini the mother of the City Councilman, Bill Roventini. Other pieces of work that are worth mention are the custom whittled 'gun grips' that Grandpa made for officers of the Sebastopol Police Department, Sebastopol, Sonoma, California. Grandpa was good friends with most of the officers in the town. The officers and he respected each others worth and Grandpa would make the grips to show his appreciation to the men who served the community. Stemming from this hobby came into play grandpa's Citizen Band Ham Radio call name of "Gun Grips." Grandpa was a jack of all trades and cars and wood were his passions. He is best remembered as a loving grandfather who would spend his days at the hardware store, having coffee in the "hole in the wall" restaurants in the town, and talking to his fellow Ham Radio talkers.
