He was born in Grantsville, the son of Lenore Johnson Gainer Booher of Grantsville and the late Artie Gainer. He graduated from Calhoun County High School in 1948 and Glenville State College in 1952. He was a retired superintendent of the Coal & Coke Division of Clairton Plant, U.S. Steel Corp., member of Central Highlands Community United Methodist Church, U.S. Army veteran of the Korean War, president of Clairton Works Credit Union, and member of Stephen Bayard Mason Lodge 526, AF&AM. He was a charter member and past president of Central Lions Club, past president of Eastern States Coke Oven & Blast Furnace Association, and served as an honor guard for Dwight D. Eisenhower.
Surviving in addition to his mother are his wife, Oleva Fowler Gainer; one son, Ronald G. Gainer of Jefferson Boro., Pennsylvania; three daughters, Kathryn D'Ottavio of Robinson Township, Pa., Patrice DeMarco of Elizabeth Township and Ellen Gainer of Whitehall, Pennsylvania; 12 grandchildren; one sister, Judith Chalfant of Fredericksburg, Va.; and several nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Paul E. Bekavac Funeral Home, Elizabeth, Pa., with Rev. Charles Fowler officiating. Burial was in Round Hill Cemetery, Elizabeth Township.
