Clair K. Smith, 84, of Elba, Ohio, died Tuesday, Dec. 13, 1994, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born in Henrietta, a daughter of the late Oak and Esther Waggoner Gainer. Her home had been in Calhoun County before she moved to Elba in 1950. She was a member of Elba Community Church. She enjoyed gardening, raising flowers, walking through the countryside, and telling stories to her grandchildren.

Surviving are her husband, Hill Smith; two sons, David Smith of Elba and Gerald Smith of Macksburg; three daughters, Helen Stack of Elba, Jo Ann Cunningham of Marietta and Phyllis Mincks of Lowell; 20 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; three great-great-grandchildren; two sisters, Louise Rusnak of Bloomingdale, Ohio, and Gladys Bower of Parkersburg; two brothers, George Gainer of Bloomingdale and Frank Gainer of Grantsville; and several nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by one son, Herman Smith; two grandchildren; one brother; and two sisters, including Melba Dutch Barker in 1994.

Services were held at McClure-Schafer Funeral Home, Marietta, with Rev. William Pickenpaugh officiating. Burial was in Lund Cemetery, Macksburg.
