George L. Gainer, 78, of Adena, Ohio, died Friday, June 16, 2000, at Harrison Community Hospital, Cadiz, Ohio.

He was born in Grantsville, the son of the late Oak and Esther Wigner Johnson. He was a U.S. Army veteran of World War II and retired in 1983 from WGH-PGH Steel Corp.

Surviving are one daughter, Kathie Ankrom of Bloomingdale, Ohio; three sons, Duanne Gainer of Wintersville, Ohio, George L. Gainer, Jr., of Freeport, Ohio, and Larry Gainer of Newark, Ohio; one brother, Frank Gainer of Grantsville; one sister, Louise Rusnak of Bloomingdale; five grandchildren; and one great-grandson.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruby Bush Gainer; one brother, Harry Gainer; four sisters, Dutch Barker, Gladys Bowers, Clair Smith and Uthul Gainer; and one grandson.

Services were held at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Homes of Wintersville, with Rev. Roy Henry officiating, and military rites by Smithfield American Legion Post. Burial was in Bloomingdale Cemetery.
