Lois S. Swanson, 72, of Winnebago, died Thursday, July 18, 2013, in OSF St. Anthony Medical Center, Rockford, surrounded by her loving family, after a short illness. Born August 18, 1940, in Rockford, the daughter of Frank and Josephine (Fanning) Holmes. Lois married Marvin Swanson on January 12, 1957, in Dubuque, Iowa. She was an active member of Allied Seniors of Winnebago County. Lois enjoyed being an antique picker and finding bargains at garage sales, besides completing crossword puzzles. Being Mom, Grandma and G-G was her passion, always supporting all the school and family activities. Lois is lovingly survived by her husband, Marvin Swanson; children, Timothy (Kim) Swanson of Stillman Valley, Marvin (Dorian) Swanson Jr. of Charlevoix, Mich., Tammy (Art) Pratt of Byron, Kristi (David) Funk of Byron, and Shawn (Kathy) Swanson of Rockford; twelve grandchildren; and she is G-G to six great-grandchildren. Lois is also survived by her sister, Patsy Renton of Rockford; and many nieces and nephews. She is predeceased by her parents and fifteen siblings. Lois's family would like to thank the staff of OSF St. Anthony Medical Center for their care and support. A gathering of family and friends will be held at a later date. Cremation rites have been accorded. Arrangements by Genandt Funeral Home, 602 N. Elida St., Winnebago. A memorial will be established. Lois married Marvin Lloyd Swanson, son of John Laurence Swanson and Juanita Fern Winterland, on 12 January 1957 in Dubuque, IA.¹ (Marvin Lloyd Swanson was born on 30 August 1939 in Cherry Valley Township, Winnebago, IL, died on 7 February 2020 in Winnebago, IL and was cremated after 7 February 2020.)
