John C. Hartsock ^{1 2}

  General Notes:

I have reason to believe that John C. Hartsock may NOT have been a son of John H. Hartsock and Nora Fast. The younger John C. Hartsock appears in the 1920 census with a wife and daughter. His birth date is given as 1897 in Illinois. However, the 1900 census for his supposed parents do not show his name even though he would have been about 3 years old.

I can find a listing in the 1900 census for a three year old John C. Hartsock born in 1897 living in the same township and county as his supposed parents however he is listed as a "Step-son" of George and Maggie Orrill. To complicate matters further, Maggie indicated that she had a total of 6 children and all 6 are listed as still living at home. That may mean that John C. Hartsock was not one of her children.

It could be possible that the notation of "Step-son" was wrong and the relationship should have been "Other". Perhaps the real parents, John H. Hartsock and Nora Fast, gave him up for adoption because of financial restraints or other personal reasons.
