In 1940, Claude was working at the Starline Factory in Harvard.

History of the Starline Factory in Harvard, Illinois
In 1883, Henry Ferris invented and patented the hay carrier. Charles Hunt and his father-in-law, Nathan Helm, suggested Ferris move his shop to the basement of their hardware store in Harvard, Illinois. Hunt and Helm suggested that they sell the hay carrier from the hardware store sales floor as part of their merchandise. And so, the Hunt, Helm, and Ferris business began. Through the years they manufactured more than 50 products and acquired more than 250 patents on equipment designed to streamline farm work.

More than a decade ago, Orrin Kinney rescued the building from demolition. The realization of Kinney's vision to restore and repurpose the old factory into a historic gem inspires a sense of wonder and awe of the creative possibilities hidden in a seemingly useless space. Kinney created an amazing niche for pioneering artists to establish their studios. Soon after the restoration began, art shows were held inviting the community and beyond to experience the magnificence of the Starline Factory and its artists. Today, the building has become a destination location for art collectors, art enthusiasts, and artists throughout Chicagoland. The Starline Factory is a stunning venue for meetings, parties, weddings, and special events.
