Julia Ann Carson was married to Dunham Savage on 23 Apr 1881 before her marriage to Alexander Renton in 1901. The 1900 US Census shows her living with her three children and her marital status was marked as divorced. She had a total of 4 children of which only 3 were still alive in 1900.

1. Gertrude L. Savage, b. 1884; married to Charles Plague. Had two children: Charlene A. Plague, b. 1907; and Carson C. Plague, b. 1908.

2. Gamble/Ganver/Gamber C. Savage, b. 1887; married Matilda <unk>; had two children: Francis D. Savage, b. 1907; and Gerald N. Savage, b. 1909

3. Matilda Savage, b. 1888

They all lived together with Alexander Renton and Julia Carson according to the 1910 US Census in Detroit, Michigan.

NOTE - The names on this record were listed by the enumerator somewhat out of order thereby making it difficult to establish proper relationship. In addition, the Plague and Savage families were all related to Julia Carson from her first marriage and not to Alexander Renton who was the head of household. Even though his wife said she had given birth to 3 children, those births were all from a previous marriage of hers. There are no known children of Alexander Renton from either of his 2 marriages.

In the 1920 US Census, Alexander was living with married brother, John, and his family. His marital status was still marked as married. There is a record for a Julia A. Renton, born about 1862 in Michigan, living in Wayne County, Michigan with Charles W. Cassidy and wife Mira. Julia's relationship was marked as mother-in-law but I have no record of a daughter named Mira who was born about 1892. The closest would have been Matilda Savage who was born about 1888 which is very close to the correct age but how does one get Mira out of Matilda? Julia's marital status was also marked as married so if this was the correct Julia, then I suspect the couple was experiencing marital problems and were living apart at the time.
