bullet  Marriage Notes:

At least one reliable researcher shows that most of the children were born in Springfield, Ohio but at the same time other researchers show almost all of their baptisms and other events occurred in or near Middletown, Frederick County, Maryland. At first I thought this was a case of "Internet Mixup" because of a lack of records for George Lauder in Middletown, they were mistaking George Lauder and his family with another one in Springfield, Ohio.

So far the only compelling hard evidence that I have found that actually proves a Springfield, Ohio connection is a marriage license for their son, Harry L. Delauder in Franklin County Pennsylvania. On that application he states his father was George and his mother was Fannie. He then states that he was born in Springfield, Ohio and his current residence is Middletown, MD.

I'm not sure if George and Fannie made one move to Springfield, Ohio and then moved back to Middletown, Maryland or if they bounced back and forth several times because not all of their children were born in Springfield. Maybe they had such a close connection to the Christ Reformed Church back in Middletown, Maryland that as soon as another child was born, they made a trek back to Middletown to have that child baptized there as well as to see the rest of their family friends still in Middletown.

Whatever happened to the family is difficult to track in genealogical terms because there seems to be few census, marriage, or birth records of the family living in either place from 1880 until well after the 1900 census. There is a 1920 census record that matches the 69 year old widowed George S. Delauder living with this married daughter, Mary N. Wise and her family. The fact that his daughter, Mary, was originally born in Springfield, Ohio but ended up back in Middletown, Maryland is also puzzling but points to the fact that the entire family must have moved back to Maryland.

In tracking the marriages of all of George's children, it seems that George and Fannie most likely moved to Springfield, Ohio shortly after 1880 and remained there until shortly after 1900 when the entire family moved back to Middletown, Maryland. Beginning in 1906 is when there are marriages of his children, all performed in Middletown, and all to local Middletown people. Most of the census records of his married children show which were born in Ohio and which were born in Maryland.

Of their 9 known children, it appears that the first three, Daisy, William, and Annie were probably born in Middletown, Maryland. All of the rest of the children appear to have been born in Springfield, Ohio. The state of Maryland releases very little genealogical information to the public but the state of Ohio has a great deal of public genealogical data, yet I can find nothing about the Delauder family while they were in Springfield.
