Gerald may be the same person as Darl. His name is shown on the 1940 census clearly spelled as Gerald and with an age of 22 which puts his birth year at about 1918. However, if he were born in 1918 then he should have been listed on the 1920 or even the 1930 census records. Those two records only show the first two sons, Hugh, and Darl. The birth year of Darl as determined from his ages on the 1920 and 1930 census would be about 1918 which is the same as Gerald.
