bullet  General Notes:

"Louisa Kimball Fast was born in Canton, Ohio on 15 January 1878. She was educated at Smith College, Northampton, Massachusetts, from which college she received the A.B. degree in 1898. Since leaving college, she has been actively engaged in public service. In 1917-1918 she served with the Smith College War Service Board. For a year she was with the American Library Association which duties took her to the Paris Library, France. Following the First World War she served with the Smith College Relief Unit (Paris Committee) in the devastated regions of France. From 1922 to 1927, she was in charge of the American University Woman's Club in Paris. Since that time, she has been on the national staff of the National League of Women Voters which organization today is doing valuable work in developing among American women an increasing and informed interest in citizenship and nonpartisan political matters. For a time, her headquarters were in the Grand Central Terminal building in New York City. She is a woman of administrative ability, public speaking experience, social attractiveness, and informed, liberal interests. She has shown an appreciated interest in the preparation of this manuscript and contributed to it. Her home is now in Tiffin, Ohio."

Additional information from an email received May 2011 from Jennifer Paradiso:

Also, there was an unmarried lady here in Tiffin named Louisa K. Fast who graduated from Heidelberg College. I remember her as I was growing up, so that would be the 1970s or so and I believe she was around 100 when she passed away. My Mother told us that she was some shirt-tail relation. I think she was originally from the Canton, OH area. Mom also told me that she was orphaned and that her Guardian was President McKinley. I guess she had an aunt and uncle here in Tiffin that she came to live with. Do you happen to have any info on her?
----------------------------------------

Louisa was orphaned was she was less than 2 years old. Her other 3 older siblings went to live with their paternal grandmother but the infant Louisa was sent to a yet unknown aunt.
