Jennie Lightfoot Wise ^{1 2}

  General Notes:

Jennie was born to Jonathan Wise and Margaret Clemmons. It is believed that her middle name of Lightfoot has no relationship to the Lightfoot family from which her husband, Ethan Allen Brody, was related. Jennie's father and Grandfather were Crow Indian Chiefs. She had a brother named, Daniel. Jennie and Ethan had four living children (plus 2 others who died in early childhood):

Herma (female) Brody
A. Earl Brody
Warren John Brody

When Ethan died, Jennie remarried to James E. Brainard who was previously married to Ethan's sister, Laura. They had no children together.

Jennie is buried next to her first husband who was the father of her children.

"FUNERAL RITES ON SUNDAY FOR MRS. BRAINARD"

Memorial services for Mrs. Jennie L. Brainard, formerly of Valparaiso, who died Wednesday at the home of her sister, Mrs. C. E. Fifield, at McCool, will be held at the home of Mrs. Fifield, Sunday afternoon at one o'clock and at McCool Methodist church at 1:30 PM.

Rev. J. M. Williams, pastor of the church will officiate with burial in the McCool Cemetery by the side of her first husband.

Mrs. Brainard was born near Valparaiso, Ind., Aug. 18, 1862. She was the daughter of Jonathan and Margaret (Clemens) Wise. She was married to Ethan Allen Brody in 1881, who preceded her in death a number of years ago. To this union six children were born. Two of them died in early childhood. The surviving children are Mrs. Leatha Holderman of Elkhart, Ind; Mr. A. Earl Brody, of Kalamazoo, Mich.; Mrs. Herman Erieson and Warren J. Brody of Miami, Fla.

In 1921 she was united in marriage to James E. Brainard of Chicago. They later bought a home in Hebron, Ind., where they resided until the death of Mr. Brainard six years ago. No children were born to this union. After the death of Mr. Brainard she made her home with her sister, Mrs. Fifield, spending various periods with her daughters at Elkhart, Ind., and Miami, Florida.

Besides the sons and daughters she is survived by 9 grandchildren and two great-grandchildren , also by the following sisters: Mrs. C. E. Fifiled, of McCool, Ind.; Mrs. Chs. Cochran, of St. Joe, Ind.; Mrs. J. W. Kuehl, of Wheeler, Ind.; and one brother, Mr. Daniel Wise, Chesterton, Ind.; besides several nieces and nephews and a host of loving friends. She was a sweet, lovable character and was beloved by all who came in contact with her.
