3 Mrs. M. Leona "Nonie" Palmer Markey was born May 2, 1915, in Yellow Springs, to the late Bertha (Summers) Lockard and Albert Palmer. She passed away on December 6, 2006

"Nonie" graduated from Frederick High School in 1932 and was secretary of her class. In 1937, she married Willard H. Markey, also from Frederick. They were married 67 years, until his death in 2004. The couple lived in Frederick on Rockwell Terrace until 1952, when they relocated to Perkasie, Pa. Both were residing at the Lutheran Community in Telford at their time of death.

"Nonie" had several executive secretarial positions both in Frederick and later in Perkasie, Pa., the latter being with Dr. Charles Winn, surgeon. She worked at Grand View Hospital and Meals on Wheels and was always available to assist anyone who needed a helping hand. At one point in time, she was a Girl Scout leader.

She is survived by her daughters, Susanne M. Bensing and husband Jeffrey of Lebanon, Pa., and Jane M. Rivera and husband Edric of Perkasie, Pa.; grandchildren, Scott Bensing and wife Lia of Reno, NV., Michael Bensing and wife Kim of New Britain, Pa., Kyle Bensing and wife Angie of Lebanon, Pa., Julian Rivera of Philadelphia, Pa., and Marisa Rivera of Perkasie, Pa.; eight great-grandchildren, Zac, Mara, Zane, Anya, Kate, Blake, Tessa and Nicholas (all Bensings); Saree Pratomthong, exchange student, cherished 'adopted' third daughter from Songkhla, Thailand; sister-in-law, Nancy Ackler of Baltimore; and many nieces and nephews.

In addition to her husband, Willard, "Nonie" was preceded in death by a son, Fredric Willard, who died at age five in 1952. She will join them at the Mount Olivet Cemetery, Frederick.
