Cora J. Brainard

  General Notes:

It is questionable if Cora was actually a daughter of Laura Brody and James E. Brainard for multiple reasons. First and foremost would be her year of birth which was about 12 years before the marriage of Laura and James. Next would be her birth location of Missouri which to the best of all known documents indicate that Laura and James never visited. And then all the census records for Cora show that her father was born in Germany whereas James Brainard was born in Indiana.

Yet the mysterious death notice for Cora from the Cook County Deaths Database 1878-1994 is very clear in showing the names of the parents as Laura Brody and James Brainard. In fact it shows the same address on Laflin Street in Chicago where the 1900 and 1910 US Census records show as the address for Laura and James.

I highly suspect that the data entries for Cora in the Cook County Database are erroneous. However, there is the strange entry on the 1910 US Census for Laura which appears to show that she might have been married twice, evidently a marriage prior to James Brainard. If this is true, then perhaps Cora was Laura's daughter to a previous marriage. But no other evidence of such a marriage nor evidence of Cora's birth records can be found.
