  General Notes:

There is a ship's passenger list showing William traveling from Bremerhaven, Germany to New York on 26 Dec 1948 aboard the SS "Ernie Pyle". Traveling with William was his wife, Rosel Stonewall, and a son named William Maring, either a biological son born illegitimately in Germany or possibly a stepson. The wife and the son have German nationality according to the passenger list so it is possible that William traveled to Germany to bring home his German born wife and stepson. Their home address was 121 South 2nd Street in Rockford, Illinois.

An updated copy of the list presented at dockside, eliminated William, his wife and son indicating that they did no embark.
