  General Notes:

It seems probable that Joseph was enumerated twice in the 1930 US Census. The first time was on 16 Apr 1930 within the town of Casper, WY in which he was listed as Joe P. Holmes, single, owned his home valued at $2500 and worked as a rancher. The second enumeration came the next day on 17 Apr 1930 in Election District 5 (which included the area surrounding Casper) in which he was listed as Joseph P. Holmes, divorced, owned his home valued at $100 and worked as a rancher on a stock ranch.

The two different areas, the different marital status, and the two different homes and their values make it seem as if they could be different persons. But I suspect that in the wide open ranges of Wyoming at the time, he may have owned or rented a small cabin out on the ranch in which he stayed whenever working the cattle. I cannot explain why he was listed as single on one census but divorced on the other. But each enumeration listed the birth locations of his parents and each was correctly listed as Ohio for his father and Missouri for his mother. Those birth locations were unusual when compared to all the others and for that reason, I feel confident that both enumerations were for the same person.
