Grace E. Homes, age 88, of La Plata, passed away Saturday, (November 23, 1991) in the La Plata Nursing Home.

She was born June 20, 1903, in Wyaconda, Missouri, the daughter of Edward S. and Lillie M. (Ferry) Wood. On August 11, 1929, she married Parker Homes, who survives.

She is also survived by one son, Larry Homes, of Montezuma, Iowa; one daughter, Marlene Barnes, of Ft. Madison, Iowa; two brothers, John Wood, of Macon, Missouri; and Leslie Wood of Atlanta, Missouri; and two grandchildren, Angela and David Barnes.

She was preceded in death by her parents, one sister, Opal Helen Wood, and one brother, Ivan Wood.

Mrs. Homes received her education in the Atlanta Schools and the Northeast Missouri State University. She taught for eight years in the elementary schools of Macon County before moving to La Plata. She was a member of the Adair County Women's Progressive Farmers Association, the Order of the Eastern Star of La Plata, for more than 54 years, and the La Plata Community Presbyterian Church.

The body has been cremated. Memorial services were held Tuesday afternoon, (November 26, 1991) at the Travis Funeral Chapel in La Plata. The Reverend Greg Wood of La Plata, will officiate. Organist will be Diantha Cable.
