Parker Hill Homes, age 96, of La Plata, Missouri, passed away on Thursday (August 29, 1996) at Grim-smith Hospital, Kirksville, Missouri.

Born on January 15, 1900, in La Plata, Missouri, he was the son of Edward P. and Mollie (Turner) Homes. On August 11, 1929, in La Plata, Missouri, he married Grace Wood, who preceded him in death on November 23, 1991.

Also preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Alpha (Babe) Crawford.

Survivors include one son, Larry Homes of Montezuma, Iowa; one daughter and son-in-law, Marlene and John Barnes of Fort Madison, Iowa; one sister, Gladys Truitt of Kirksville, Missouri; two grandchildren, Angela and David Barnes; several friends and relatives; and his dog, Festus.

Mr. Homes resided in southeastern Adair County, Missouri, all of his life, where he farmed. He received his education at the Oklahoma Rural School. He carried the petition for rural electrification in Schuyler, Scotland, and Adair counties. He was a charter member of the Tri-County Electric Board of Directors, member of the La Plata Order of the Eastern Star, the I.O.O.F. of Kirksville, Missouri, the La Plata Masonic Lodge #237 A.F. & A.M., and the Community Presbyterian Church of La Plata, Missouri.

Memorial and Masonic Lodge services were held at 2:30 p.m. on Sunday (September 1, 1996), at the Travis Funeral Chapel, La Plata, Missouri, with the Reverend John Carswell officiating. Music was provided by Dianthe Cable, organist.

The body has been cremated and the internment will be held at the La Plata Cemetery at a later date.

The family requests that memorials be made in memory of Parker Hill Homes to the Community Presbyterian Church or to the La Plata Masonic Lodge #237 A.F. & A.M. Memorials may be left at or mailed to the Travis Funeral Chapel, La Plata, Missouri.
