  General Notes:

John was born ca 1827, Meigs, Ohio, married Margaret Shields on 16 January 1855, Meigs, Ohio. He was a cooper by trade. He enlisted 15 June 1861 age 34 with company E 4th Infantry Regiment of Virginia- Union. He died of disease 3 April 1863 at Milliken's Bend, Louisiana and was buried in Vicksburg National Military Park in Mississippi 28 April 1863 Section N #53. There are various dates for his death - this being the earliest found. Margaret applied for a pension and received it.
