In 1942, Ned was registered for the World War II Draft in Detroit, MI. At the time his age was 51 and his residence was at 392 Saint Clair Street, Grosse Pointe, Wayne County, Michigan. He worked for the Detroit News but his exact position was not known. He indicated that the person who would have always known his address was his mother back in Bryan, Ohio thus suggesting that he was never married. The registration card also indicates that his middle name was merely the initial B.
