--------------------------------------

As with many other members of the Allison family, there are problems with the birth dates for several of Orlando's family.

His wife, Alice (or Allie or Almira), gave birth years of 1844 in the 1880 US Census, 1850 in the 1900 US Census, and 1856 on the 1920 US Census and as inscribed on her gravestone. Researcher Roy Oehler gives a seemingly trusted date of 13 Sep 1855.

The son, Fred, gave a birth date of May 1879 on the 1900 US Census but 1881 appears on his gravestone. Most documents for Fred show a birth date of 2 Feb 1882. The 1879 date from the 1900 US Census cannot be correct because Fred's name does not appear with the family on the 1880 US Census when he would have been about 1 year old.

The daughter, Maybell (or Mabel), provides a birth date of 1878 on the 1880 US Census. On the 1900 US Census, she provides a birth date of Sep 1881 which cannot be correct because she was listed with the family on the 1880 US Census. Some researchers show a birth date of 2 Feb 1879 which is plausible but her age was given as 2 on the 1880 US Census and that 2 Feb 1879 date would have made her age 1 instead of 2. Also note that the date for her brother, Fred, was also given as 2 February which sounds as if the date has gotten mixed up between the two siblings by researchers and is now impossible to ascertain which is correct without any source citations. The date of 1878 is probably the correct one.

The son, Ned (or Neil), provided a birth date of Apr 1890 on the 1900 US Census but his gravestone is marked as 1891.

It would seem that many of the Allison gravestones at Boynton Cemetery may have the wrong birth dates on them. Since many of them are relatively new even though the deaths were quite a long time ago, I suspect that one or more well-meaning family representatives used whatever family information that was available at the time and used those dates even though they may have now been proven slightly inaccurate.
--------------------------------------------

There is also a discrepancy in the number of children born to this marriage. On the 1900 US Census, Almira indicated that she had given birth to 6 children and they were all still alive. There are birth records for 7 children and all but Lena are known to have been alive until 1900. But there is a problem with the birth records of Mabel Allison in that the names of the parents may have been reversed with the next entry in the birth register. This reversal is indicated by a set of arrows alongside the names of the fathers but not the mothers. Perhaps Mabel Allison was not born to Orlando and Almira. The 1900 US Census clearly lists Mabel as a daughter.

The 1900 US Census does not list the name of the daughter named Lena, who was born in 1886 suggesting that she died as an infant. No death record for her can be found.

To complicate things even more, at least one researchers suggests the name of the wife of the son, Ned Allison, was Mabel. Her gravestone appears alongside of but as a separate stone from that of Ned Allison. There are no inscriptions to indicate "wife" or "husband" but their close proximity suggests that they were husband and wife. The birth date of this Mabel as given on the gravestone is 1879 which matches the date given for the supposed daughter named Mabel. If this Mabel were indeed a wife of Ned and not a daughter of Orlando and Almira, then the number of children as indicated on the 1900 US Census is correct at 6. But even that would seem to be doubtful in that the death record for Ned who died in 1948 indicated that he was single. His supposed wife named Mabel lived until 1955. This suggests that she was not a wife but rather a daughter of Orlando and Almira which then raises her count of children up to 7 instead of the 6 given on the 1900 US Census. No record of a marriage for Ned can be found.
