bullet  General Notes:

Sometimes researchers will show the mother of Mabel to be Josephine Collins but this comes from an erroneous listing in the index on Family Search.org. A close examination of the actual birth registers shows a set of arrows alongside of her father's name entered as Oliver Allison and the next line down also with a set of arrows pointing up next to the name of Orlando Allison. The purpose of these arrows is to indicate that the names are reversed and appear on the wrong line. What is unfortunate is that these arrows seem to indicate that only the father's names are reversed but in reality they indicate that the names of both the fathers and mothers have been reversed with the entries on the next line. The mother's names that are reversed are Josephine Collins and Allie M. Rex.
---------------------------------------------

Mabel was supposedly enumerated twice in the 1910 US Census: first on 4 May 1910 in Springfield Township, Williams County, Ohio where she was living with her widowed mother; and second, on 5 May 1910 in Guide Rock, Webster County, Nebraska where she was living at the home of her aunt, Ella Maria Allison.

It does not seem possible for her to physically be in Ohio on the 4th of May and then in Guide Rock, Nebraska the very next day. But the on the census with her aunt, she was consistent in under-reporting her age by one year so it would seem to be the same person.

I am unable to explain this apparent problem. Perhaps there was a different Mabel Allison. But Mabel remained with her widowed mother in Ohio for the remainder of her life. It is possible that she visited her aunt Ella but the dates of the census seem to make that travel impossible.
