bullet  General Notes:

Elizabeth Hawes, the mother of Kate Anne Houser, had a sister probably with the name of Kate but went by "Kitty" as found in the obituary for Elizabeth in which her married name is mentioned as "Mrs. Kittie Bruner". Obviously she must have liked the nickname so much that she applied it to her own daughter.

Many researchers show her given name simply as "Kitty" but I've determined that her true given name was "Kate Anne" and not "Kitty" because it appears in the 1860 census as "Kate". In addition, the 1909 obituary for her mother, Elizabeth Hawes, indicated that the surviving children included "Mrs. Kate Adams of Sioux City, Iowa".

Other researchers show a death date for her as 1869, but if she is mentioned as a surviving child in her mother's 1909 obituary, then her death date should obviously be after 1909.
