bullet  General Notes:

David Alsup, grandson to Florence, provides the following:

"According to my mother, Florence Lawson's middle name was Marie. When my mother, Ethel Mae Kostow, met Florence in 1942, they exchanged middle names. The middle names being so close in spelling, mother distinctly remembers they were not the same."

In my own estimation, the middle name of Marie is not "so close" to Mae or May, I think that this observation has mistakenly changed her name from May to Marie. Yet, David Alsup is convinced that the quotation is accurate and that her middle name was Marie.

bullet  Birth Notes:

Her gravestone is clearly marked with a birth year of 1900 but that is believed to be incorrect. Most researchers provide a date of Apr 1896 in Greene County, Missouri and that is supported by the 1920 census which shows her age as 23.

• She was buried after 10 December 1943 in the Misemer Cemetery in Paris Springs, MO.

In spite of the many different birth dates given by researchers for Florence, her simple flat gravestone of gray granite gives the year as 1900. The inscription reads "Florence Alsup, 1900 - 1943".
