William Hardin Cutshall, father of Mayor W. Sherman Cutshall, passed away yesterday afternoon at 1:30 at the home of his daughter, Mrs Charles O. Todd, 1105 South Calhoun street, after a prolonged Illness. He has been bedfast for a long time, but is has been only in the past few weeks that his condition has been critical.

The decedent, William Hardin Cutshall was the Earlyies of Allen county's pioneer families. Born in Dayton, Ohio on September 7, 1835, Mr. Cutshall came to Allen county in 1837 with his parents, who made their home first in the old Penn house, north of the city, which is one of the spots rich in association with historic happenings of the earlier days of the county.
Mr. Cutshall was married to Miss Andeline Myers, a member of another of the county's pioneer families and they were the parents of nine children, two of whom, Emma and Frederick preceded their parents in death. Mr. Cutshall moved to Fort Wayne and for years followed the vacation of a carpenter, contractor. He retired from active pursuits a number of years ago. Mrs. Cutshall preceded him in death four years ago to the day passing away at the age of 56.

Mr. Cutshall was a member of Sion S. Bass post of the G.A.R. and served in the Union army from March 1864 until July 4, 1865, as a member of the 11th and 18th Indiana batteries.

He was also a member of the Simpson M. E. Church.

The surviving relatives include seven children, as follows: Mrs. Eva M. Baughman, Mrs. Charles O. Todd, Mrs. John F. Duhot, Mrs. Montgomery G. Beaver, Mayor W. Sherman Cutshall, Theodore M. Cutshall, and Frank H. Cutshall. There are also eight grandchildren.

The funeral will be held at 2:30 p.m. Tuesday from the residence of his daughter, Mrs. Eva M. Baughman, 213 East Williams street, Rev. U.S. Bridge will officiate and the interment will be in Lindenwood.
