• His obituary was published after 9 May 1955 in Muncie, IN. Few persons except his intimates knew the rich and happy life long enjoyed by Dr. Jesse O. Ernsberger, 82, 413 Hollywood Ave., an optometrist and watch repairman for more than 60 years, who died at 8 p.m. Sunday after an illness of several weeks.

Dr. Ernsberger had offices for many years in the Johnson Building. He came to Muncie in 1917 to join the Ball Railroad inspection division with whom he remained for many years. He was a graduate of Julius King Optometry College in Cleveland and had practiced in Ft. Wayne for a short time before coming to Muncie. Dr. Ernsberger was born in Wapakoneta, Ohio. He was a member of Holy Trinity Lutheran Church and Masonic Lodge 342, Ft. Wayne.

Dr. Ernsberger and his wife, Garnet, who died Jan. 11, 1954, were a devoted couple who took great pleasure in driving about rustic roads in Indiana and Ohio. Muncie and Delaware County residents recognized the familiar auto of Dr. Ernsberger at many scenic sites off the main routes. He and his wife lost their only child, Frances, in death while she was a senior in high school in 1926.

Dr. Ernsberger is survived by a brother, the Rev. Harold B. Ernsberger, a retired Lutheran minister of Mentor, Ohio; and four sisters, Mrs. James A. Werner of Cleveland, Mrs. Fred Englehart of Toledo, Mrs. Helen Raabe of the Virgin Islands, and Miss Sadie E. Ernsberger of Williston, Ohio.

Funeral arrangements will be completed at Piepho Funeral Home.
