  General Notes:

Von Roon was born January 2, 1871. Was educated in the public schools and the University of South Dakota. For four years he was a "cow boy" in Montana. He then went to Chicago in 1894; studied and passed in Electrical Engineering' worked for Water Arch Furnace Co. for seven years and at the time of his death, was consulting engineer of the Company. In 1903, he was married to Bessie G. Bowden. To this union was born one child, Irene Harriet, May 8, 1904. Von Roon was killed by a falling elevator in Chicago April 16, 1905. He is buried in Atlanta Cemetery.

• His obituary was published in the Alton Evening Telegraph on 18 April 1905 in Alton, IL.

² Crushed to Death by Elevator
Chicago, April 18. - John Medbury, a steamfitter, 274 Huron street, was crushed to death by a freight elevator at his home. Medbury was repairing a door to the shaft and stooped over the opening, when the rope broke and the elevator fell for the floor above and crushed him.
