  General Notes:

Zelma was born in Delta, Fulton County, Ohio. Later the family moved to Brailey, Ohio. Her father built a house in Brailey. Then the family moved to outside Brailey on a farm owned by Eggleson or Eggleston family. Her father later sold the farm and moved to Wauseon.

Zelma attended Brailey School and Pike School to the 7th grade. She attended the 8th grade in Wauseon, and three years of high school there. In 1919, the family moved to Toledo. Zelma finished high school at Waite High School, Toledo, Ohio.

Zelma Emma Kirkman Smith graduated from the University of Toledo with a two year degree in teaching. She taught 4th grade in Toledo prior to and the first year of her marriage. She was then a homemaker living in Cuyahoga Falls, Ohio and kept house until her husband died in 1959. She later removed to Akron, Ohio and spent her later years there.
