1. Obituary, 7 August 2025, Lynchburg, , Virginia, United States. ⁴ Dianne Mattox, 73, of 871 Mortimer Drive, Evington died Tuesday, August 5, 2025 at Centra Lynchburg General Hospital. She was the wife of George "Punk" Mattox for thirty-six years.

She was born January 8, 1952 in Cedar Rapids, Iowa, a daughter of the late Al McLaughlin and Maxine McLaughlin. She was a devoted member of New Prospect Baptist Church, where she was active in the Circle group and the Buffalo Creek Sunday School class. She retired from Sweet Briar College after a fulfilling career as a researcher. A skilled horsewoman, she showed horses across the country; she was also a gifted painter and a dedicated cattle farmer. Dianne had a deep love for animals, especially her cherished dog, Bobbi.

She is survived by two daughters, Erin Radford and her husband, Henry of Evington and Angie Mattox of Lynchburg; one brother, Gary McLaughlin and his wife, Ellen of Dallas, TX; a daughter-in-law, Lynn Mattox of Rustburg; eight grandchildren, John Davis, Tyler Hutcherson, Seth Mattox (Kaylee), Timmy Akers (Nicole), Jacey Kijawski (Tyler), Jessica Akers, Ashley Burgess (Titus), and Adam Emerson (Sierra); sixteen great grandchildren; and a number of nieces and nephews.

She was preceded in death by a son, John Mattox; and a sister, Julie Coleman.

A funeral service will be conducted at 11:00 a.m., Saturday, August 9, 2025 at New Prospect Baptist Church, Hurt by the Rev. Brady Willis with interment to follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends from 7:00 until 8:30 p.m., Friday at Finch & Finch Funeral and Cremation Service, Altavista and other times at the residence.

The family is especially grateful to Mike Brooks, Gary and Brenda Collie for their love, support, and care.
