General Notes:
Researcher George M. Chapman IV reports that it is believed that Lafayette Chapman changed his name to George Memory Chapman. There is one big problem with this conjecture: Lafayette Chapman was a son of William Grant Chapman instead of William Lightfoot Chapman.
What is strange is that George Memory Chapman was not shown with his family on the 1880 census when he would have been about 7 years old. However, the death certificate for George Memory Chapman indicated his birth date as 4 Aug 1872 instead of the 1871 as indicated for Lafayette Chapman on his 1880 census form. The birth dates are close but still cause for concern.
