• His obituary was published in the Borger News Herald on 10 May 1966.

John Houser Giffen of Modesto, Calif., pioneer Borger resident, died following a heart attack in his home recently. He was buried in Golden Gate National Cemetery, San Bruno, Calif.

The brother of Mrs. J. E. Evans, 424 Coble, was a citizen of Borger from 1926 to 1951. He moved to California eight years ago.

Giffen was a veteran of World War I, serving with the 90th Division in the battle of St. Mihill, Meuse-Argonne, Defensive Sector. He was a member of the VFW and American Legion, and was a Presbyterian.

Surviving are two sisters, three brothers, and several nephews and nieces.
