Cara E. Darner married W. G. Handschin on January 1, 1923, in Des Moines, Polk County, Iowa. Her parents were given on the marriage record as Lemuel M. and Elizabeth (Smith) Darner. L. M. Darner married Lizzie G. Smith on February 20, 1890, in Adair County, Iowa. After Lemuel's death, Elizabeth married J. M. Law on June 26, 1923, in Ottumwa. (The groom's name in the marriage record in ancestry.com has been incorrectly transcribed as Charles Mosena. Charles was the man who made the affidavit. By looking at the actual marriage record, it may be seen that the groom's name was J. M. Law.)

Mrs. Cara Handschin, 88, of Hotel Burlington, died at 4:32 p.m. Monday, Nov. 5, at Burlington Medical Center.

The daughter of John and Elizabeth Gertrude Law Smith Darner, she was born May 1, 1981 [sic], at Ottumwa. She married Bill Handschin; he died earlier.

She retired after 25 year's service with Clark's Drug store and had worked for the Rock Island railroad and the Iowa Dept. Of Social Services. She was a Methodist and member of White Shrine.

A cousin, Mrs. Lula Brann, Des Moines, survives.

Graveside service, 2 p.m. Thursday, Shaul cemetery, Ottumwa. The body is at Prugh's Chapel.
