bullet  General Notes:

[Brøderbund WFT Vol. 12, Ed. 1, Tree #1194]
Evangelical Reformed Church of Frederick, Frederick County, Maryland has book reported to contain information on Jacob's christening - Baptized 27 Mar 1758.
----------------------------------------

There is lots of confusion over this person. First, not all researchers agree as to his name. Some use only the older Germanic form of Johann while others use either the modernized English version of John, while still others use only the name of Jacob, and still others say he was known as John Jacob.

Then there is confusion over his birth date with suggested dates ranging from 1750 to 1758 but most agree that he was born in Frederick County, Maryland. Most report a birth date of 27 Mar 1758 which is the same date the Evangelical Reformed Church of Frederick, Maryland reports as his date of christening. This makes it unlikely that he was born and christened on the same day.

To complicate the birth date issues, some researchers state that he had an older brother with the same exact name and that he died before this John Jacob was born. This was not an uncommon practice among various European ethnicities.

So the 1750 suggested birth date may belong to the first John Jacob who died before 1758. And knowing the a supposed second John Jacob was christened in 1758 makes one of the birth dates suggested as 1756 seem very plausible.

Then there is confusion over the burial location for John Jacob and his wife Catherine. Some researchers say he is buried in Fast Cemetery in Fairfield County, Ohio. Others say that he is buried in Mount Tabor Cemetery in Hocking County, Ohio. Still others point to a gravestone in Driver Cemetery in Fairfield County that gives the names of "Jacob and Catherine" as their final resting place.
