bullet  General Notes:

[Brøderbund WFT Vol. 7, Ed. 1, Tree #1334]
Lloyd's early schooling was in Neptune, Ohio. He graduated from Saint Mary's High School, Saint Marys, Ohio. He rode horse back seven miles to high school during good weather, but during severe weather he boarded in Saint Mary's during the week, and came home on weekends to help on the farm.

Lloyd was not interested in farming, so he left home for Detroit, Michigan. After working at several jobs, he heard of an opening with a traveling show called Sears. They needed a handy man and Lloyd had a yearning for travel. The show traveled through the East and then sailed for London, Middlesex, United Kingdom. There Edith Battle joined the show as a talented seamstress and filled in as an actress when needed. The show went broke in Naples, Italy. With the help of Edith's parents Lloyd and Edith came back to London. It seemed impossible for Lloyd to get a job in London, so he returned to Detroit. Lloyd felt that automobiles had a real future so he went to work in the factory. Nine months after he returned from London, he sent for Edith and they were married the day she arrived here. He quit factory work and went into sales. He sold his first car (Carter car) the day George was born. In those days, when a salesman sold a car, he also had to teach the buyer how to drive. He could tell us a number of funny experiences he had with his buyers.

Later Lloyd open up an used car lot. One day a man came in needing money desperately. He did not want to sell his car so he asked Lloyd if he left the car with him would he loan him a certain sum of money. Lloyd thought about it and they made a deal where Lloyd would received a certain sum of money in exchange. Lloyd saw a real future in this and this was the beginning of what became the very successful "Motor Credit Corporation", a loan and discount organization.

Hobbies - traveler, boats, flowers, horses.
