On the 1900 Census, Mary indicated that she had 8 children of which only 7 were still alive. Current records can account for a total of 10 children instead of just 8.

Of the 7 children that Mary indicated were supposed to be living, only 2 sons were listed as still living with the family. Where were the other 5 or 8 children?

Only two of the other children can be definitively found elsewhere in the 1900 census: (1) Arthur Smith who appears with the Jacob and Elizabeth Deems family in the Center District of Calhoun County. Jacob Deems was the step-grandfather to Arthur; (2) and Wattie Smith who at the age of about 10 appears as a servant living with George and Elizabeth Silcott in Calhoun County, WV.
