• He was buried after 7 September 1895 in the Mountjoy Cemetery in Atlanta, IL.

David and his second wife, Amanda, share one common gravestone that is a large gray granite vertical face block approximately three feet wide and three feet high. The inscription reads "David Atteberry, 1808-1895; Amanda, wife of David Atteberry, 1827-1874".

• His obituary was published in the Unknown newspaper after 7 September 1895 in , Logan County, IL.

3 Friday evening Sept 7 at the home of his daughter Mrs. Jim Brawley, occurred the death of David Atteberry, one of the oldest and most respected citizens of Eminence Township. Deceased was born in Grayson county, Kentucky Sep 7th 1807 being 89 years and 8 mo old. He immigrated to Illinois in 1828 and married in 1831 to Polly Adams, a daughter of Captain Adams who was killed in the Blackhawk War. To this union were born two sons and four daughters. His wife died January 27, 1848. He was then married to Mrs Amanda Ayers who bore him nine children. His wife died in 1874. Thirteen children along with 49 grandchildren and 53 great grandchildren reunite(?) to mourn the loss of this noble sire. Uncle David, as he was familiarly named(?) had been a resident of Eminence for sixty-six years and enjoyed a (?????) (???) as neighbor, citizen and that was irreproachable. He had been a worthy member of the Eminence Christian church almost from its earliest organization and many of his descendants are among our best citizens.

The funeral services were very impressive and were conducted by Rev(?) Mavity in the presence of a vast audience. The pall-bearers were ??? Merriam, Abel Larimon, Noah Ferguson, Pendleton Howard, Adam Shields and George Mountjoy. His remains were interred in the Mountjoy cemetery.
