General Notes:
"Genealogy of Houser, Rhorer, Dillman, Hoover Families", W. W. Houser, 1910:
She was born in 1770 near Lancaster, Pennsylvania. At the age of seventeen, Mary Phillips was married to Henry Hoover although her parents did not give their consent, but she resolutely cast her lot with Henry and left for Hagerstown, Maryland, where her husband went into business, he being a tailor by trade, but his health failed him, and at the age of 21 years Mary was left a widow among strangers with one child, Susan; and her only means -- three hundred dollars in gold, and a few household goods. But she desired to keep the money for Susan as it had been her father's, and as she had learned to spin and weave cloth at her father's home, she thought she would now take up this work as a means of support for herself and little Susan. So she hired to Jacob Houser's mother to do her spinning and weaving and in this way came about her acquaintance, courtship and marriage to Jacob Houser. Quite an unusual incident is told regarding one of these journeys. One evening Mary became sick and they struck camp and a baby boy was born who was afterwards named Bradford, and a little later they found a much better camping place a short distance ahead, so as mother and babe were doing well, they moved up to this place and camped for the night, when 'Lo! and behold!' there was another boy born who was named Braxton. On investigation the next morning it was found that upon making the second move they had crossed the Tennessee line into Kentucky, hence Braxton was a Kentuckian. After the death of her husband, the wife found a welcome home with her sons, Braxton and Bradford and Braxton's family, the brothers having bought a farm jointly and were full partners in their farming. In the year 1860 Braxton with his wife and five children moved to Ralls, Missouri, having sold his interest in the farm to his brother Bradford, and Mary, their mother, remained with Bradford but she only lived a few weeks longer. She died in November, 1860 at 92 years of age and was laid to rest by her husband. ----------------------------------------

Marriage Notes:
Given the fact that Mary was born in 1770 and that she was 21 years old when her first husband died, that would make the year 1791. Therefore, her marriage to her second husband, Jacob Houser, had to occur after 1791. ----------------------------------------
